This is the second of five planned bookmarks I will be giving out as gifts during the holiday season.

The pattern is a freebie from Tantes Zolder.  I stitched only about half of the original band as the entire band would have given me a bookmark that was nearly 10 inches long and that's a ridiculous length for a bookmark, I think.

This was stitched on 16 count scrap Aida using scrap threads.  It measures 2¼ wide and 5¼ long.

I really like how this turned out - far more than I thought I would.  I am not a huge fan of the color green (of which there is a ton) and William Morris-esque designs usually leave me lukewarm (too frilly).  I might keep this one for myself in the end.

Lovely bookmark! Do you do anything to the back of yours to cover the back of the stitching, or leave it as is?

To back it, I took a matching piece of Aida, lined up the holes and did a reversible cross stitch on it to hold the pieces together. Then I trimmed away the excess and pulled thread from 3 rows to make the frayed edge.

I experimented with this method on another bookmark a few months ago and liked the look. I have been using the bookmark ever since and nothing has come loose at all.

Reversible cross-stitch? What's that?
Would you by any chance have a picture of the back of one of your bookmarks?

I have added a photo of the back of the bookmark to this post.

I have added a new post you my journal explaining my way of doing reversible cross stitch. You can download a .pdf turorial from there.
